In his first term as a councillor from 2013, Andrew King served as the deputy chair of Council’s Strategy and Policy Committee, sat on the Organisations Committee, the Finance Committee, the Business and Investment Sub-Committee, and as Chair of the Libraries Review and the Beale Historical Cottage Review. He was elected mayor in 2016.

David attended Hamilton Boys’ High School and moved on to studied mechanical and electrical trades. He then headed to the UK for an OE, where he lived and worked in London and travelled extensively. Back in Hamilton, he started Andrew King Electrical in 1991, which specialised in installing and maintaining plastic extrusion machinery, microwave repeater equipment and push-to-talk radio systems. Around the same time, he started building up a portfolio of commercial property and started trading in vehicles and finance. Kings Cars and Kings Finance, a lender of personal, vehicle, construction and development finance, followed. He owns commercial property in Hamilton and has various other business interests in the city.

David lives in Dinsdale, Hamilton with his wife Anne where they attend Gateway Church. Together they have three grown children.
