Philip Yancey

18 December 2011

Born in Atlanta, Philip Yancey lost his father to polio when he was only one year old. Growing up in a strict and toxic church environment, Philip discovered reading to be a window into a very different world.

Reacting against what he had been taught in his upbringing he disregarded his faith, only to begin cautiously investigating Christian claims once more, later on in life. After high school, he attended Columbia Bible College and went on to earn his MA with highest honours from Wheaton College.

Moving to Chicago in 1971, he wrote for a variety of magazines, including Reader’s Digest and the Chicago Tribune. He has since written numerous best-selling books addressing questions of faith including “Where is God When it Hurts?” and “The Jesus I Never Knew”.

With 14 million books sold worldwide, he is one of the world’s best-selling Christian authors.
