Born in Dunedin, Tim was adopted by a Presbyterian minister and moved to Pokeno at the age of two weeks.
After studying at Auckland University, Tim was soon a staff writer at Auckland’s Metro magazine. With a passion to move to the USA, he had visions of working for The New Yorker.
Two weeks after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre, Tim found himself in New York as a freelance reporter in the wake of the tragedy.
In 2003 Tim got his first chance at a live television appearance for TVNZ and quickly learned that TV was a completely different beast to print journalism.
Tim soon became a regular fixture on One News in 2004 as TVNZ’s American correspondent.
After a decade of covering major stories in the USA including the death of Michael Jackson and the BP oil spill, Tim retired from the role and returned to New Zealand in early 2012.
